You could pick up more lessons in one area, such as Heart of Algebra, if you don’t feel you are making progress in another, such as Problem Solving and Data Analysis. The only lessons that are “necessary,” in my opinion, are 500 lessons. There is more opportunity here for students on both ends. I find for my students who have not taken higher level math and who may feel intimidated by the math sections that this section is easy to master and teach. I say this because many of my students in higher level math classes have forgotten some of these foundation questions or are racing through these questions because they perceive them to be easy and get them wrong as a result. I find for my students aiming for a 1600 and my students with a 1000, the best place to start is usually Problem Solving and Data Analysis. This is not an official list from Khan Academy. I came up with recommendations based on that information. As a result, I used data from Khan Academy to determine which concepts were most tested for test 1-10, including test 2 and 4 which have since been deleted but whose classifications I obtained previously. I don’t want to take you all away from a system that is comfortable. Many educators and students are familiar with Khan Academy.
However, right now I am writing this in the middle of the global pandemic that is Covid-19.
While I see the value in Khan Academy, I have a lot of reservations after what I read in Paul Tough’s book, The Years that Matter Most (read more about my concerns in this ChalkBeat Article).
While we also use Khan, I just prefer 1600.io as it has up to date videos for every single practice test. First and Foremost, I would like to state I primarily use 1600.io for test prep and highly recommend it for my SAT students.
